[IN] Xing Theatre Company ::  January 2007 update

[IN] Xing Theatre Company

First of all, Happy late new year to all, hope it brings you all you want and need in your lives...

The team has been running around during the last few weeks. Why everytime I say this it sounds to me like an old excuse...? well, the fact is that many things have been happening these last two months. Where can we start... hmmm...

December.

In December we kept ourselves busy pre-producing and running several projects. [IN] Xing presented the School Network with a performance at Taiping elementary school. The play chosen to produce was \'T\'was the night before Christmas\', the famous poem by Clement Moore. Chad developed a simple script based on this poem, and the play was staged as shadow puppet and acting show.
The pre-production was pretty busy, as we had to manage the local production of the project, schedule rehearsals, contact the actors, source and buy the materials for the set and some other things. We run the show very successfully on a couple of ocassions, as well as in our own space, on the Christmas dinner and party. For this project we had new people working in the team: Ke yao and Helmi, who came from Singapore and found himself unexpectedly involved on all this... they all did a great job and it was fun to work together. Looking forward for more in the future...

Right after the tour, we had a Christmas weekend in our space that included a children workshop, as well as a dinner and the show we just produced. That was Saturday, 23rd.

That morning, when we were about to start the workshop, Chad got a call from Macau: Kami, his wife and partner of the company, was heading to the hospital. The baby was coming three weeks before expected. You can imagine the situation... I drove Chad downtown... really fast... he got a cab to the airport and took off to Macau. Now it sounds funny to me, but there were quite a lot of nerves on those moments... congratulations to the new parents...!!!

January is almost over as well... last week we had a theatre and voice workshop at Ming Dao school in Wurih, Taichung County. Chad flew in and Ofelia (production assistant) was leading the theatre games lessons. Victor was the voice teacher. It was a challenging workshop, the expectations were very high and our time very short (it was a 14 hour, two days workshop). Finally, things worked out as planned and designed, and a lot was achieved with 12-13 years old kids who never had any kind of theatre and voice training or experience. Overall, nice experience...

That\'s the short version of these last two months. We\'ll be uploading some pictures from all those projects soon, so stay tuned!
